Great attention to detail for accessibility but would be superb with the addition of a wheel in shower.

Holiday Inn, Bristol, Filton

I would recommend Holiday Inn at Bristol Filton for people with restricted mobility who can manage a shower over bath washing facility. There are 4 accessible rooms available which are very spacious, allowing plenty of room for manoeuvrability in a chair and pull cord alarms are by the bed, bath and toilet. Slightly disappointing were the bathroom facilities; a bath with shower over and lots of grab rails. I managed with this but a wheel in shower would be ideal, certainly safer! The disabled parking spaces are close to the entrance and display a phone number to request assistance, if needed, into the hotel. (What fantastic attention to detail - brilliant if travelling alone!) The approach to the hotel entrance is sloped and doors are automatic, again, good for independent travelling. Walkways are wide and floors are polished, perfect wheelchair terrain! Staff seemed really well briefed about the right amount of assistance to offer (which can be so difficult to get right) For example, a waitress asked if I would like to remain in my chair for dinner or transfer to the dining chair. Upon checking In, I needed to complete a risk assessment form in case of fire etc.. to check whether I could leave independently or would need further assistance from staff.
Accessibility aside, the hotel was very well appointed, the restaurants served great food (Loved the Sampans oriental food) and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It also looked great for children and features a large play area in its grounds.
The only accessibility difficulty I had was returning to my room late one evening when all the fire doors in the corridors had been closed and I needed to seek assistance. Overall, this hotel is really trying to get it right, a wheel-in shower is really a must for wheelchair users, but the level of service was great and I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
